Remove annoying alert sound (exclamation popup)¶

- Hardware and Sound Then select
- Change System Sound
- Look for Exclamation and uncheck it
- Apply setting
HDD 100% (Windows 8)¶
Go to charms bar and press search, then type view local services.
Once here, stop and disable BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service). Also, set windows update checks to manual.
Chrome also seemed to be a factor so uninstall that too.

Store app¶

Drill down under that branch until you see "DllPath", which points to SkypeContext.dll. Delete it.
So, for example, in the version I have now, "DllPath" is here:

Disable Clock app sound¶
In Settings –> System –> Notifications & actions –> Click on Clock -> turn off “Play a sound when a notification arrives”
Change login screen default keyboard¶
- Click the language on the Taskbar.
- Then click Language preferences.
- At the bottom under “Related settings,” click “additional date, time, & regional settings” which opens the control panel
- Click the “Region” option
- Then go to the far right tab “Administrative”.
- In the “Welcome screen and new user accounts” click copy settings.
- Tick “Welcome screen and system accounts” (and “new user accounts” if you want it to be applied to those as well).
- Click Ok.
